Sunset FC U14’s looking forward to Cayman Airways Invitational

With the third annual Cayman Invitational U14 Youth Cup fast approaching, Sunset FC Coach Paul Macey says that his team is eagerly anticipating the challenge of battling with international teams and improving their own abilities as they do so.

“We are looking forward to the tournament and we hope to do well,” he said. “The quality of the opposition is generally unknown – although we are expecting some tough games. This is a great opportunity for our boys and I know they are keen to do well.”

Captaining the U14 side for the tournament is defender Tommy Kehoe. Having played with Sunset for six years, Tommy definitely has the experience necessary to take on the responsibility. “I am most looking forward to an opportunity to play against Tottenham Hotspur,” he said. His past and present experience playing on Cayman’s U13 and U15 national football teams will come in handy when Sunset takes on the Premiership team’s academy on Tuesday, June 21.

Mr. Macey is confident in Tommy’s ability to lead his team, ensure that they work together, and get them to give their best effort. “Tommy is an all-action player,” he said “He excels in a number of sports and leads by example.”

Macey is grateful for the opportunity for his players to participate on an international scale. “Our thanks go out to Academy for organising the event and for asking us to participate,” he said. “We are thankful that the development of our local players is at the heart of the tournament.”

With this goal of development and gaining experience for the future in mind, Macey’s team for the tournament is largely made up of young players from Sunset’s U13 squad. “The experience will bode them well for the future,” he added.

Their team for the tournament will include: Lucas Burke, Liam Walton, Ewan Wilson, Finn Millward, Jaden Yearwood, Trey Rivers, Micah O’Garro, Christian Dyer, Tommy Kehoe, Aaron Jarvis, Kameron Bennett, David Pitcairn, Jaden Ebanks, Barry Dre Tibbetts, Diondre Wright, Josh Cox, Trystan Wilson, Jona Narborough, Kris Arch, Jacob McMillan, Josh Small.

Sunset’s first game of the tournament will be against REV Soccer Club on Monday, June 20th at 5:00pm at Truman Bodden Sports Complex. The tournament will run from June 20-25. The other participating teams are Academy SC from Cayman, Gillingham FC and Tottenham Hotspur from the UK, Cavalier SC and Harbour View FC from Jamaica, and REV SC and IFFDC from the United States.
